How to Share the Gospel

Sharing the Good News: How to Be a Witness for Jesus

As followers of Jesus, we have been given the most wonderful gift: the “good news” that God loves us and offers us new life. Naturally, when you have something amazing, you want to share it with the people you care about. Sharing your faith—or “witnessing”—doesn’t have to be complicated or scary. It’s simply about sharing your heart with others.

Why Do We Share Our Faith?

We don’t share our faith to win an argument or to follow a “rule.” We share because:

  • Jesus Asked Us To: He told His followers to go and make more disciples. It’s a mission of love.

  • We Have Hope: When you have found peace, purpose, and forgiveness in Jesus, it is only natural to want your friends and family to experience that same hope.

  • We Are Not Alone: God gives us His Holy Spirit to guide our words and give us courage. You are never doing this by yourself.

Practical Ways to Share Your Faith

  • Live a Life That Glows: People watch your life more than they listen to your words. When you choose kindness when you’re annoyed, honesty when it’s hard, or forgiveness when you’ve been hurt, people notice. Your life is your first sermon.

  • Build Real Friendships: Don’t view people as “projects.” Get to know them. Listen to their stories, celebrate their joys, and be there for their sorrows. Real trust opens the door for real conversations.

  • Tell Your Story: You don’t need a theology degree. Just share your story: What was your life like before you knew Jesus? How did you meet Him? How is your life different now? No one can argue with your personal experience.

  • Use the Bible: If a friend is going through a hard time, share a verse that has comforted you. Keep it simple—God’s Word is powerful, and a single verse can change someone’s day.

  • Pray for Opportunities: Every morning, ask God to use you. Ask, “Lord, who can I encourage today?” Then, keep your eyes open. He often opens doors in the most unexpected moments.

Learning from the Bible

  • Be Adaptable (Like Paul): Paul shared the message with everyone—from scholars to prisoners—by meeting them where they were. You don’t have to talk to everyone the same way. Be yourself and speak the language of the person you are with.

  • Be Bold and Clear (Like Peter): Peter spoke clearly about who Jesus was and why He matters. When the time is right, don’t be afraid to clearly share the good news.

  • Start with Needs (Like Jesus): Jesus often started by helping people or meeting their physical needs. When you help someone, it shows them that you genuinely care.

  • Follow the Spirit’s Lead (Like Philip): Sometimes God will nudge you to talk to a specific person. Be ready to listen and follow that nudge.

Scripture & Encouragement

Scripture “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” — 1 Peter 3:15

Encouragement Please remember: your job is just to plant the seed; you don’t have to force it to grow. God is the One who changes hearts. If someone isn’t interested or if you feel nervous, don’t be discouraged. Just keep loving people and living your faith. Your faithfulness is what matters most to God. He is using your life as a light, and that light is making a difference—even if you can’t see the results right away. You are His ambassador, and He is so proud of you for wanting to share His love!

Summary

Sharing your faith is about love, not pressure. By living consistently, listening well, and being honest about your own journey, you can be a powerful witness for Jesus.

  • Be authentic: Share your own story of how Jesus changed you.

  • Be patient: Build relationships that show you care.

  • Be gentle: Always share with love and respect, not judgment.

  • Be ready: Trust the Holy Spirit to give you the right words at the right time.

You have been given a beautiful story to share. Keep walking with God, and let His love spill over into the lives of everyone you meet!
