Jesus didn’t just teach about love; He lived it. When He walked on this earth, He showed us that love isn’t just a warm feeling. Instead, love is a choice—a deliberate decision to be kind, patient, and selfless every single day.
If you want your life to reflect the heart of Jesus, you have to move beyond being “nice” and start loving in a way that truly changes the people around you.
Loving like Jesus is about putting others first. It is the opposite of being selfish. It means looking at the people in your life—your family, your coworkers, and even your enemies—and asking, “How can I serve them today?”
He Served Others: Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, even though He was the King of Kings. He taught us that true greatness is found in serving, not in being served.
He Offered Forgiveness: When people hurt Him, He didn’t hold a grudge. He offered grace and a fresh start. He even forgave the people who put Him on the cross.
He Loved the Outcast: Jesus spent time with people that the rest of society ignored or looked down on. He showed us that everyone has value and deserves to be treated with kindness.
You don’t need to do something “big” to love like Jesus. It happens in the small, everyday moments:
Listen Carefully: Most people are just waiting for their turn to talk. Loving like Jesus means putting your phone away, looking someone in the eye, and truly listening to what they have to say.
Be Kind Without Reason: Look for ways to help people that aren’t for your benefit. Offer a kind word, help with a chore, or simply show interest in their day.
Choose Grace: People make mistakes. When someone lets you down, try to offer grace instead of anger. Remember how patient God is with you, and try to be that patient with others.
Let Go of Grudges: Forgiveness is hard, but it is necessary. Holding onto anger only hurts you. When you forgive, you are choosing to break the cycle of pain.
Pray for Those Who Hurt You: This is the ultimate test. It is very hard to stay angry at someone when you are asking God to bless them and heal them.
Scripture “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34
Encouragement Loving like Jesus is not something you have to do in your own strength. In fact, you can’t do it perfectly on your own! It is a lifelong journey. You will have days where you get it right, and days where you get it wrong. That is okay. When you stumble, just ask God for help. The Holy Spirit is living inside you, and He is the one who gives you the power to love even when it’s difficult. You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to keep moving toward Him. Keep trying, keep praying, and keep loving. You are making a bigger difference than you know.
Loving like Jesus is the most powerful way to show the world who God is. By serving others, forgiving easily, and putting people before yourself, you become a light in a dark world.
Love is a choice, not just a feeling.
Service is the heartbeat of love, so look for ways to help others.
Forgiveness is essential, because it sets you and others free.
God is your helper, and He will give you the strength to love even when it’s hard.
Make the choice today to love someone a little differently. You never know how much that kindness might change their life.
