The Garden’s Choice

The Garden: Trusting God’s Heart

In the beginning, God created a beautiful place called Eden. It was a paradise filled with bright sunlight, sparkling rivers, and peaceful animals. Adam and Eve were the first people, and they enjoyed something even better than the scenery: they walked and talked with God every evening. There was no fear, no secrets, and no shame. They were perfectly happy.

God wanted them to stay happy and safe, so He gave them a simple boundary: “You can enjoy everything in this garden, but do not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. If you eat from it, you will lose the beautiful life we share.” This wasn’t a restriction to make their lives boring; it was a way to protect them from things they weren’t ready to handle.

But one day, a serpent came to Eve. He spoke with a clever lie, asking, “Did God really say you couldn’t eat that?” He tried to make Eve believe that God was hiding something good from her. He made her doubt God’s love. Eve looked at the fruit, listened to the doubt, and took a bite. Then, she shared it with Adam.

Everything changed in an instant. For the first time, they felt fear and shame. They didn’t want to be near God anymore, so they hid behind the trees.

When God came into the garden, He asked, “Adam, where are you?” He wasn’t asking because He didn’t know where they were hiding. He was asking because He wanted them to come out of the shadows. He wanted them to know that even though they had messed up, He was still there.

Because of their choice, life became harder, and pain entered the world. But God didn’t stop loving them. In that very moment, He gave them a promise: one day, a Savior, Jesus Christ, would come to fix the broken relationship and bring humanity back to Him.

Why This Story Matters Today

We often face the same temptation Adam and Eve faced. Life gets busy, and the world whispers, “Does God really care about you? Is He holding out on you?”

When we doubt God, we tend to hide. We hide behind our mistakes, our busyness, or our fear. But this story teaches us two powerful truths:

  1. God’s boundaries are for our protection: He isn’t keeping us from “fun”; He is protecting us from things that will hurt our hearts.

  2. God always comes looking for us: Even when we run, God calls out, “Where are you?” He doesn’t want our perfection; He wants our presence.

No matter how far you feel you’ve run, you don’t have to hide anymore. God’s love is bigger than your biggest mistake. He is waiting to welcome you back, to restore your peace, and to walk with you again.

Scripture & Encouragement

Scripture “But the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?'” — Genesis 3:9

Encouragement If you have been feeling far from God, or if you are carrying the weight of a past mistake, hear Him calling your name today. He isn’t standing there with a list of your failures; He is standing there with open arms. You can stop hiding. Come out into the light, talk to Him honestly, and let His love wash away the shame. You are safe with Him.

Summary

Adam and Eve lost their peace in the garden the moment they stopped trusting God’s heart. By listening to a lie, they walked away from the best life possible. But even in their deepest moment of failure, God pursued them. This story is a beautiful reminder that our mistakes are never the end of the conversation. God is a God who seeks the lost, forgives the repentant, and works through Jesus to bring us back home. The question today is not “Where are you?”, but “Will you come out and trust Him?”
